Pac-10 Volleyball Opens Season Friday

Over the last seven seasons, Pac-10 volleyball has dominated the collegiate scene as it has sent 15 teams to the Final Four and captured five national titles. During those seven seasons, the league has posted an impressive 683-195 (.778) non-confer conference record, and that jumps to 108-28 (.794) in NCAA Tournament tournament action. Over that same span, 39 different student-athletes combined to garner 69 AVCA VCA All-America accolades. With nine AVCA VCA All-Americans returning and 14 Volleyball FAB AB 50 recruits added to this year's Pac-10 rosters, the league is determined to continue its successful ways in 2008. Can the Pac-10 duplicate early season success from 2007? The league opened last season with a 21-6 record (.778) through the first week of action ... The Runza/AVCA Showcase will be the place to be for the opening weekend of collegiate volleyball. Pac-10 powerhouses No. 2 STANFORD and No. 4 USC take on the Big 12's elite in No. 3 Texas and No. 7 Nebraska. Those matches will be televised by CBS College Sports Network.
Pac-10 volleyball was well represented at the 2008 Olympic Games in Bejing. The silver medal-winning USA Women's Olympic Indoor Volleyball Team roster included Kim Glass (Arizona `05), Logan Tom (Stanford `02), Ogonna Nnamani (Stanford `04) and Nicole Davis (USC `03), while USA Women's Beach Volleyball Team members included Kerri Walsh (Stanford `99) and Elaine Youngs (UCLA `92). Walsh and her teammate Misty May-Treanor captured the gold medal.
