This Season in Pac-10 Softball Washington wins NCAA title For the first time in program history and the 21st time in Conference history, the Washington Huskies shutdown the top seeded Florida Gators to win the 2009 NCAA Softball title.
Danielle Lawrie, the third-seeded Huskies starting ace, was rewarded for her stellar pitching by being honored as the USA Softball Player of the Year, the WCWS Most Outstanding Player and receiving the Honda Award as the best female athlete in softball.
Washington, the fifth team in the Conference to win a softball National Championship, spent three-straight weeks on the road during their post-season venture. 2009 WCWS All-Tournament Team Ashley Charters, Washington Danielle Lawrie, Washington* Kimi Pohlman, Washington Morgan Stuart, Washington Niki Williams, Washington *Most Outstanding Player UCLA takes Pac-10 Title The Bruins won their ninth Pac-10 title to secure the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. In four of its eight previous season it which it won the Conference title, UCLA also won the NCAA title (1988, 1989, 1990, 1999). After starting the Pac-10 season 1-4, the Bruins found their stride and concluded the Conference season going 15-1 to clinch the League championship. Out of the Park With national home run leader Stacie Chambers' bomb in the third inning against Tennessee Martin on May 15, Arizona broke the Pac-10 and NCAA record for most home runs in the season. The Wildcats, who bested their own home run record of 126 in 2001, set a new record with 134 home runs hit in 2009 Chambers (31) and Jenae Leles (23) are finished the season ranked first and second in the nation and in the Pac-10 in home runs per game. Pac-10 Record Breaker Arizona State's Kailtin Cochran has made an imprint Pac-10 record books and has become one of the most decorated players in Conference history. The senior finishes her career ranked third in career walks with 235, third in total runs with 274, fifth in career batting average with .444, sixth in games played with 273, seventh in home runs, 69 and 10th in both career RBI (230) and career doubles (54). At the conclusion of her career, the Sun Devil has is the only Pac-10 player to be ranked in seven of the Conference's 11 offensive career records. No other player has been ranked in more than six categories.
