Five Pac-10 Softball Players Named to ESPN.com Preseason All-American Team
Feb. 7, 2008 Five Pac-10 players have been named the 2008 ESPN.com Preseason All-American Team, announced earlier this week. ARIZONA STATE OF Kaitlin Cochran, STANFORD OF Alissa Haber and UCLA OF Krista Colburn garnered the accolade to fill all three outfield spots on the team. Cochran was named Pac-10 Player of the Year last year after leading the Conference in hitting (92-187, .492). Colburn was named to the All-Pac-10 First Team after a season in which she led the Bruins in hitting (66-173, .382), Runs (50), and on base percentage (.483). Haber earned Second Team All-Pac-10 honors as a freshman after leading Stanford with a .365 average, 40 runs and a .455 OBP. ARIZONA P Taryne Mowatt, last year's Women's college World Series' Most Outstanding Player, as well as ARIZONA STATE P Katie Burkhart, last year's Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year, were also named to the list. Mowatt earned All-American honors in 2007 after striking out a Conference record 522 batters and recording three no-hitters. Burkhart was also a All-American in 2007, tossing an ASU school record 35 wins and leading the Pac-10 in ERA (1.11) and batting aveage against (.138) The Pac-10 opens plays this weekend as Conference teams participate in tournament action. 2008 ESPN.com Preseason All-America First Team
