Former Cats Lead U.S. at Canada Cup
July 6, 2009
SURREY, B.C. -- Former Arizona third baseman Jenae Leles blasted a home run for her first U.S. National Team hit as she and both Jennie Finch and Caitlin Lowe helped lead Team USA to a 3-0 weekend mark at the Canada Cup. Team USA defeated the Netherlands and Australia, both by 7-0 margins in five innings on Saturday, and Venezuela, 8-1 in six innings, on Sunday. Finch hit an RBI single in the third inning to widen the score to 4-0 against the Netherlands, then Leles - who hit 57 home runs from 2006-09 at Arizona - hit a solo shot to open up a 5-0 margin in the fourth. Against Australia, Lowe touched home on an RBI double to open the scoring in the first, then hit a sac to plate Brittany Rogers later in the game. On Sunday, Lowe went 3-for-4 with a run scored against Venezuela, while Finch tossed three innings of four-hit ball, striking out five. Through three games, Lowe has seen the most at-bats of any American, hitting at a .444 clip (4-for-9). The U.S. National Team takes on host Canada at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
