2007 PACIFIC-10 CONFERENCE WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS
THIS WEEK IN PAC-10 GYMNASTICS
The Pac-10 Conference Championship provided exciting competition and outstanding gymnastics. The Conference's seven teams met in Tempe, Ariz. at Wells Fargo Arena to compete in one last meet before the NCAA tournament. No. 8t UCLA (197.200) captured its 13th Pac-10 Gymnastics Championship title, edging No. 4 STANFORD (196.950) and No. 8t OREGON STATE (196.300). No 15 ARIZONA (196.000) placed fourth, while WASHINGTON (194.775) and ARIZONA STATE (194.550) battled it out for fifth and sixth places respectively. CALIFORNIA finished the meet in seventh place with a team score of 193.650. UCLA's Tasha Schwikert had a stellar night winning the all-around (39.750), and floor titles while sharing the vault (9.950) and beam (9.950) titles. Schwikert was also voted by the coaches the Pac-10 Gymnast of the Year. Stanford's Carly Janiga was voted Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and Washington's Joanne Bowers and Stanford's Kristen Smyth were voted Pac-10 Co-Coaches of the Year. All seven Pac-10 teams take a week to prepare for NCAA Regional Championships to be held at various locations on Sat., April 14, 2007.

PAC-10 GYMNAST OF THE YEAR
SCHWIKERT won the Pac-10 all-around title for the second time in her career, scoring a 39.750, and ranks No. 3 nationally in the all-around. Schwikert also won the vault, beam and floor titles at the Pac-10 Championships. She is the only gymnast in the nation ranked in the Top 15 in the all-around and all four events (third in the all-around, vault and beam, ninth on floor and 11th on bars). Schwikert has hit an impressive 44 of 45 routines on the season and 43 in a row while placing first on an event on 60% of her routines (27 individual event victories out of 45 routines). 30 of her 45 scores have been 9.9 or higher, including 27 of her last 34 routines She leads the team with season averages of 39.446 in the all-around, 9.906 on vault, 9.907 on floor and 9.856 on beam. Schwikert won the all-around five consecutive times she has competed from Jan. 15-present. She received Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week honors the first two weeks of the season and earned honorable mention Pac-10 All-Academic honors.
PAC-10 FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
JANIGA, from Paradise Valley, AZ, has been Stanford's leading all-arounder throughout the 2007 season, competing in all four events at every meet and earning Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week Honors early in the season. She was listed in Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd" as a result of that award. Prior to competing at Stanford, Janiga trained at Desert Devils Gymnastics under Geoff Eaton. She was a multi-year member of the US Senior National team who qualified to the 2004 Olympic Trials, where she finished 9th. She earned gold medals on floor representing the US in two international competitions following the Olympics, then finished her high school career as the 2006 Junior Olympic National Bar and All Around Champion.
PAC-10 CO-COACH OF THE YEAR
BOWERS, this first-year head coach directed a remarkable turnaround of the Washington program, leading the Huskies to fifth-place at Saturday's Pac-10 Championships and a berth at next week's NCAA West Regional meet. She is the third Washington coach to receive the honor and the third Pac-10 coach ever to earn conference Coach of the Year honors in their debut season, joining UCLA's Valerie Kondos Field (1995) and Cal's Cari DuBois (2003), each of whom were also named Pac-10 Co-Coaches of the Year in their first seasons at their respective schools.
PAC-10 CO-COACH OF THE YEAR
SMYTH in her sixth year as Stanford Women's Gymnastics Head Coach has lead the Cardinal to a Pac-10 undefeated regular season and No. 4 final regular season ranking. In 2006 the Cardinal captured the Pac-10 title for the second time in the last three seasons, finished third at the NCAA West Regional, and two gymnasts (Tabitha Yim, Natalie Foley) captured five All-American honors. Smyth has quickly turned the Cardinal program into one of the nation's elite. In her first season, Smyth led Stanford to its first-ever NCAA Super Six appearance. She followed that up with another NCAA Championship appearance in 2003, marking the third straight year that the Cardinal advanced to the NCAA Championships. In 2004, she guided Stanford gymnastics to its fourth straight NCAA Championships, and capped the most successful season in program history by tying for third at the NCAA Super Six Championships.
PAC-10 NAMES 2007 ALL-CONFERENCE WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS TEAM
WALNUT CREEK, Calif., - Following are the 2007 Pacific-10 Conference Women's Gymnastics All-Conference teams, announced today. The All-Conference teams consist of the top six all-around competitors, plus the top three competitors in each individual event not among the all-around selections. Individuals may earn All-Conference honors in multiple individual events. A gymnast's score is determined by a combination of 50 percent regional qualifying score (entire season composite) and 50 percent Pacific-10 Conference Championship score.

ARIZONA - No. 15 Arizona finished fourth at the Pac-10 Championship Sat., Mar. 31 ... Junior Karin Wurm led the Wildcats finishing sixth in the all-around (39.425) and tying for second on bars (9.925) ... Senior Jamie Holton competed well finishing tied for fifth on floor (9.875) ... Wurm was named to the Pac-10 All-Conference team in the all-around while Holton was named to the beam and floor All-Conference teams ... Arizona advances to its 21st consecutive NCAA Regional Championship as it will host the South Central Region Championship Sat., April 14 at 6:00 p.m. ... Sophomore Nicole Harris led the Sun Devils this past weekend tying for third in the all-around (39.450), tying for fourth on bars (9.900) and finishing third on beam (9.925) ... Senior Cassandra Jusino also led the Sun Devils, finishing tied for third on vault with a 9.925 ... Harris earned Pac-10 All-Conference honors for the all-around with Senior April Boone receiving All-Conference honors on beam ... CALIFORNIA - The Bears finished seventh at the Pac-10 Championship this weekend ... Sophomore Jessica Kelly was California's top performer scoring a 38.900 in the all-around competition ... Kelly recorded a 9.800 on vault, 9.750 on bars, 9.825 on beam and rounded out her day with a 9.725 on floor ... Sophomore Lydia Williams scored a 9.850 on bars to finish tied for tenth ... California will be hosting the NCAA West Regional Championship Sat., April 14 where the Bears will enter competition seeded sixth.
OREGON STATE - Oregon State recorded a 49.000 or higher on three events on its way to finishing third behind UCLA and Stanford at the Pac-10 Championship ... Sophomore Tasha Smith led the Beavers finishing second in the all-around (39.475), and floor (9.925) while tying for third on bars (9.925) ... Sophomore Jami Lanz finished the competition tied for third in the all-around (39.450) and bars (9.925) and tied for fourth on beam (9.900) ... Both Lanz and Smith are members of the Pac-10 All-Conference team in the all-around with Freshman Mandi Rodriguez a member of the All-Conference team on vault ... STANFORD - Stanford placed second at the Pac-10 Championship this past weekend ... Junior Liz Tricase won the bars (9.950) individual title for the second year in a row ... Junior Alex Pintchouk finished tied for third on the vault (9.925) while junior Tabitha Yim finished tied for second on the bars (9.925) and tied for fourth on the beam (9.900) ... Junior Tasha Schwikert, named Pac-10 Gymnast of the Year, had an incredible performance winning the all-around (39.750) title, floor (9.950) title and sharing the vault (9.950) and beam (9.950) titles ... Freshman Anna Lialso had a very impressive night finishing tied for third in the all-around (39.450) and tied for first on beam (9.950) ... Four UCLA gymnasts were named to the Pac-10 All-Conference Team ... UCLA will head to Morgantown, W.V. to compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship seeded second.
WASHINGTON - The Huskies finished the Pac-10 Championship fifth scoring 194.775 ... Sophomore Ashley Houghting led the Huskies finishing the all-around competition in seventh with a 39.400 while winning a share of the individual vault title (9.950) ... Coach Joanne Bowers was voted the Pac-10 Co-Coach of the Year by her peers ... Washington will head to Berkeley, Calif to compete in the NCAA West Regional Championship Sat., April 14 seeded fourth.
