WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- STANFORD junior post player Jayne Appel was named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Player of the Week for Dec. 22-28, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. Appel receives the award for the second time this season. Appel was one rebound shy of her fifth-straight double-double, netting 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds in an 84-49 win over UC Davis on Sunday afternoon. A native of Pleasant Hill, Calif., the 6-foot-4 junior made seven of eight field goal attempts, also adding a block in only 23 minutes of playing time. Appel was the Pac-10's player of the week on Nov. 24. This week's recognition is the fifth of her career and the 64th all-time for Stanford since 1986 to lead the Conference. The Cardinal will take a short time off before plunging into Pac-10 Conference play this weekend on the road. Stanford travels to face Arizona State on Friday, Jan. 2, followed by Arizona on Sunday, Jan. 4.
