Catching Up With Coach J
Aug. 12, 2008
Hello Husky Fans - The Staff... The Team... Freshmen Kristi Kingma, Liz Lay, Charmaine Barlow, and Mollie Williams just finished up our Summer Bridge program. Through this class the girls were able to get acclimated to the campus, learn valuable study skills, and also see the city on Friday field trips. Right now the newcomers are at home one last time before they officially start their careers as Huskies at Early Fall Start on Aug. 25, but no worries...Coach Matt Ludwig (our new strength and conditioning coach) sent them home with a personalized workout that should keep them pretty busy. The upperclassmen have also continued summer classes and most will stay in Seattle the rest of the summer continuing to work out with Coach Ludwig, rehabbing in the training room with Jenn Ratcliff (our athletic trainer), and doing everything possible to stay healthy and be the best basketball players they can be.
In the Community... The team is currently participating in a six week program called Sisters in Strength. The program was started by Seattleite and former Iowa State standout, Lindsey Wilson. It is an exercise, mentorship, and life skills program for teenage girls in foster care. A young girl gets matched up with a collegiate athlete for two weekly sessions of strength training and fitness as well as workshops on setting goals, eating healthy, and building self esteem. Our athletes are doing a great job being positive role models for these young ladies and are representing the Husky Family well. Way to go team!!! On a side note for all you curious Huskies, one of our team members found time in her busy schedule to showcase our locker room in UW's very own production of MTV Cribs... click here to watch. Enjoy and remember...Everyday is a GREAT day to be a Husky. GO DAWGS!! Coach J P- PERSISTENCE |
