Seattle (AP) - The Seattle Storm traded second-year guard Semeka Randall to the Utah Starzz on Monday night for guard-forward Kate Starbird.

Starbird is from nearby Tacoma, Wash., and used to play for the Seattle Reign of the now-defunct American Basketball League. The former Stanford star appeared in 15 of Utah's 22 games this season, averaging 1.7 points in 5.9 minutes.

She was chosen by the Reign with the No. 4 overall pick in the 1997 ABL draft and played two seasons in Seattle. Starbird averaged 12.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 59 games. In 1998-99, she ranked fourth in the ABL in 3-point percentage and 13th in scoring.

"We are excited to get a local star in Kate Starbird who can provide this young team with veteran leadership, versatility at the guard and forward positions, and an outstanding 3-point shooting touch," Storm coach and general manager Lin Dunn said.
