7UP SIGNS ON AS FIRST SPONSOR OF PAC-10 BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS
July 30, 2001 SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--7 UP has reached an agreement to become a presenting sponsor for the Pac-10 Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments, it was announced today by Pac-10 Properties and Fox Sports Enterprises. 7 UP, which has been the official soft drink of the Pac-10 since 1997, becomes the first sponsor to sign on for the post-season basketball tournaments, which begin play in 2002. The men's basketball tournament will take place at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles and the women's tournament will be on campus at the University of Oregon in Eugene. "7 UP has had a great relationship with the Pac-10 Conference for the past four years, and we're thrilled to be continuing the partnership as the presenting sponsor of the men's and women's basketball tournaments," said Gerald Johnson, vice president of relationship marketing and merchandising for Dr Pepper/Seven Up, Inc. The agreement between 7 UP and the Pac-10 Conference is for three years beginning with the 2002 tournaments. In addition to sponsoring the men's and women's tournaments, 7 UP will be involved in a number of special events and activities surrounding the tournaments. 7 UP will be the title sponsor for a 3 On 3 Basketball Tournament that will take place at each Pac-10 campus in January and February 2002, with the winning team from each university earning a trip to Los Angeles to compete in the finals, which will take place outside STAPLES Center prior to the Pac-10 Tournament. In addition, 7 UP will have a presence at other special events during the tournaments. 7 UP will conduct a retail promotion surrounding the basketball tournaments and will continue its broader conference sponsorship retaining category exclusivity as the official soft drink of the Pac-10. The agreement with 7 UP was reached by Fox Sports Enterprises and Pac-10 Properties, which is a joint venture between the Pac-10 Conference and Fox Sports Net.
