BERKELEY - The California women's basketball team faces one of its most challenging schedules in several years during the 2002-03 season. On the plus side, fifteen of its 27 games are at home at Haas Pavilion on campus.

The Golden Bears open the season with exhibition games on Nov. 3 and Nov. 16. The regular season opener is Sunday, Nov. 24, against perennial powerhouse Rutgers at Haas Pavilion. Cal looks to take advantage of an early season home court advantage as eight of their first nine games are at home and each of their first nine contests are in the Bay Area, with a nearby road game at Saint Mary's on Friday, Dec. 20.

The annual Oakland Tribune Classic is set for Dec. 7-8 and features Colorado, which advanced to the 2002 NCAA Elite Eight, Evansville and Pennsylvania. Overall, the Bears play 10 teams this season that advanced to the 2002 postseason, five to the NCAA Tournament and five to the WNIT.

On Friday, Dec. 27, Cal opens the Pac-10 season at home against Arizona followed by a game against Arizona State on Dec. 29.

Cal opens the new year with seven of nine games on the road, including a road trip to the state of Georgia to face Mercer (Jan. 2) and the University of Georgia (Jan. 4).

The second-annual Pac-10 Tournament takes place March 7-10 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.

Season tickets go on sale at the Cal Athletic Ticket Office (2223 Fulton Street, Berkeley) beginning Monday, July 29, or by calling 1-800-GO-BEARS. Prices are $90 for adults, $42 for youth/senior/disabled, $65 for faculty/staff and $150 for a family pass (2 adults, 3 youth).

Applications also are being accepted for Hoop Club, the official support group of Cal women's basketball. Call 510-642-2444 to have an application sent or emailed to you.
