Women's Basketball Announces 2001-02 Schedule
July 11, 2001 EUGENE, Ore. - University of Oregon women's basketball coach Bev Smith announced the Ducks' 2001-02 schedule Wednesday. Oregon opens up the regular season at McArthur Court against mid-majors Wisconsin-Green Bay on Nov. 17 and Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 18. At the Pape' Jam at Portland's Rose Garden, the Ducks will take on Texas Christian, who advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season. In a rematch of last year's overtime thriller at Lubbock, Texas, the Ducks will play Texas Tech at home on Nov. 26. The Lady Raiders advanced to the Sweet 16 last year and finished the season ranked No. 12 in the nation. In its only preconference tournament Nov. 30-Dec. 1, Oregon will travel to Lawrence, Kan., to compete in the Jayhawk Classic, which includes Kansas, St. John's and Alabama State. In another home game, the Ducks also will take on NCAA Sweet 16 team Utah (Dec. 8), which beat Oregon at Salt Lake City last season. "We have progressively more difficult opponents in a very short time span," Smith said. A one-game road trip at Brigham Young precedes the competitive Pac-10 slate, which begins about two weeks earlier this season because of the conference tournament March 1-4. "The Pac-10 is an incredibly tough conference," Smith said. "After last year's parity at the end of the season, this year looks as if it will be even more competitive."
