Stanford's Pedersen Named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Complete Release in PDF Format WALNUT CREEK, Calif--STANFORD sophomore forward Kayla Pedersen was named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Player of the Week for Feb. 23-Mar. 1, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. Pedersen, a native of Fountain Hills, Ariz., averaged 20 points per game, shooting a combined 65.2 percent (15-23) from the floor in the No. 3/2 Cardinal’s wins over UCLA and USC on the road. The 6-4 forward excelled from long range, making 58.3 percent (7-12) of her shots from beyond the arc. A stand out on defense, Pederson also averaged 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in the road sweep of the Los Angeles area schools. Against UCLA, Pedersen scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds, rejected three shots and tallied a steal. In Stanford’s victory over USC, Pedersen again netted 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. This marks the first career Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Pedersen. Stanford players have earned the weekly honor five times this season and 67 times overall. With two more victories over the weekend, the Cardinal took sole possession of the lead in the Pac-10 standings. Stanford closes out the Conference season with two more home games as it hosts Arizona on Thurs., March 5 at 7 p.m. PT and faces Arizona State in a nationally televised game on Sat. Mar 7 at 12:30 p.m. PT, on FSN.
