PAC-10 WRESTLER OF THE YEAR - ANTHONY ROBLES, ARIZONA STATE Robles, a redshirt sophomore from Mesa, Ariz., claimed his first ever Pac-10 title and finished fourth in the nation at 125-pounds, earning All-American status for the first time in his career. Robles, who was born missing his right leg, finished the season with a 29-8 overall record for the Sun Devils. Competing in the 2009 Pac-10 Championships, Robles defeated Cal State Bakersfield’s Brandon Zoeteway with a 17-1 technical fall victory to claim his first ever Pac-10 title. Last year’s Pac-10 runner-up, Robles was voted the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament by the league’s coaches. At the 2009 NCAA Wrestling Championships, Robles, seeded 12th, placed fourth overall in his weight class to become the first Arizona State wrestler to become an All-American at 125 pounds. Robles is the 63rd All-American in program history and the first since 2006.
PAC-10 COACH OF THE YEAR - GREG RANDALL, BOISE STATE Randall led Boise State to its second straight Pac-10 title, scoring a Conference record 172.5 points, which broke the previous record of 155 set by Cal State Bakersfield. With six different wrestlers winning individual championships, the Broncos’ win marks the fifth time in the past 10 years Boise State has won the Pac-10 Championship. In his seventh season as head coach, Randall had nine wrestlers compete in the NCAA Wrestling Championships with three finishing in the top-eight in competition. Sophomore Andrew Hochstrasser led the way for the Broncos, finishing fourth at 133-pounds and earning All-America distinctions. Boise State finished 12th overall, the best of any Pac-10 team nationally. This marks the second consecutive Pac-10 Coach of the Year award for Randall.
PAC-10 FRESHMAN/NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR - JASON CHAMBERLAIN, BOISE STATE Chamberlain, a native of Springville, Utah, competed for the Broncos as a true freshman, winning a Pac-10 individual championship at 149-pounds after he defeated Oregon State’s Heinrich Barnes in double overtime, 6-5. With his Pac-10 title, Chamberlain would earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Wrestling Championships. The freshman would finish his season 22-9 and ranked 16th, losing in the second round of the consolation bracket at NCAA’s. Chamberlain started 16 of 20 duals for the Broncos and won one regular season title at the Body Bar Tournament in Ithaca, NY.
