TEAM-BY-TEAM NOTES California continues to impress opponents and analysts, alike, notching a 4-1 win over Stanford in its regular season finale on Sun., Nov. 13 ... The Golden Bears finish in second place in the Pac-10 with a 6-3-1 league record, as well as 13-3-2 overall ... Cal earned a No. 7 seed in its at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament and will face the Santa Clara-Ohio State winner on Tues., Nov. 22 at 1:30 p.m. at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley ... The Bears are playing in their program-record fifth-consecutive NCAA Tournament ... In Cal's win over Stanford on Sunday, senior forward Calen Carr recorded his 11th goal of the 2005 season, while notching his fourth assist ... Carr paces the league in the following seven categories: shots (70), shots per game (3.89), points (26), points per game (1.44), goals (11), goals per game (0.61) and game-winning goals (6) ... The Bears are ranked in all three major polls this week and as high as No. 9 by Soccer Times ... The last time the Bears were seeded heading into the playoffs was 2002, when they earned a No. 14 seed. Oregon State picked up a 4-1 win over Washington on Sun., Nov. 13 to conclude the regular season ... The Beavers end the year with a third-place finish in the Pac-10, a 9-7-4 overall record, 5-5 in the Conference ... Senior forward Ryan Johnson had a monster game last weekend, scoring two goals and assisting on the other two in the win over UW, which was just OSU's second victory in Seattle in 12 tries ... Johnson led the team in just about every offensive category this year, including goals (6), assists (9), points (21) and shots (47) ... He ends his career as OSU's all-time assist leader with 30, and finished third in points (66), and tied for seventh in goals (18). San Diego State, playing in its inaugural campaign in the Pac-10, made it a memorable one by finishing in fourth place with a 2-3-5 league record, 9-3-6 overall ... The team played in one match last week, losing a tough 1-0 double overtime game to Conference champion, UCLA ... The Aztecs earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament and will face UC Santa Barbara (12-4-3) in the first round on Sat., Nov. 19 at 1 p.m. at UCSB ... SDSU, ranked as high as 22nd in this week's Soccer America poll, received its first NCAA bid since the 1989 season, earning head coach Lev Kirshner his first tournament appearance at the helm of the Aztec program ... San Diego State has made six all-time appearances in the NCAAs, finishing as the national runner-up to Clemson in 1988 .. The winner of the SDSU-UCSB match will play No. 15-seeded Cal State Northridge on Tues., Nov. 22. Stanford fell 4-1 to ninth-ranked California on Sun., Nov. 13 to conclude its 2005 regular season ... The Cardinal finish with a 4-11-3, 1-7-2 record ... With only three seniors on the team, Stanford can return 22 of its 25 rostered players from this season, who all gained experience on the field ... Freshman midfielder/forward Tunji Munabi scored the lone Stanford goal over the weekend ... Munabi also attempted three of the team's six shots ... Junior goalkeeper Andrew Kartunen recorded six saves on the afternoon, bringing his season total to 42, good enough to finish sixth in the Pac-10. UCLA, owning a 12-4-3, 7-1-2 record, picked up a No. 5 seed and a first round bye in the NCAA Tournament, the selection committee announced yesterday ... The Bruins will face the SMU-USF winner on Tues., Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. in Los Angeles ... UCLA earned the Pac-10's automatic berth into the postseason when it clinched the Conference crown on Sun., Nov. 6 ... The Bruins fell 4-2 to San Diego in non-conference action last week, but rebounded with a 1-0 double overtime win over San Diego State on Sun., Nov. 13 to conclude the regular season ... UCLA, who has not faced SMU or USF yet this season, has advanced to the NCAAs in each of the last 23 years ... The Bruins are 5-2-3 this season against schools in the 48-team tournament field, with victories against No. 1 seed Maryland, No. 7 seed California, No. 11 seed Penn State, UC Santa Barbara and San Diego State ... Senior midfielder Jonathan Bornstein recorded one goal and an assist in two matches over last week ... Bornstein now has five goals and 12 points, second-most on the team ... The Bruins pace the league in shutouts with 14, while junior goalkeeper Eric Reed is second in the nation in shots on goal save percentage with a mark of .877. Washington dropped its final match of the season in a 4-1 defeat to Oregon State at home on Sun., Nov. 13 ... The Huskies finish the 2005 season with a 10-7-2 overall record, 3-5-2 and fifth-place finish in the Pac-10 ... It marks only the second time in 11 years that UW has failed to make the NCAA Tournament ... Sophomore forward Ely Allen scored the lone Husky goal against the Beavers on Sunday ... Senior goalkeeper Chris Eylander was credited with five saves in the match, finishing the season with 70 total, good enough to rank third in the Pac-10 ... Eylander also ranks third in saves per game (3.68), fourth in save percentage (.787), fourth in goals against average (0.97), while tied for third in shutouts (7) ... In addition to Eylander, five other Huskies played in their final match, including midfielder Leo Totev who ranks eighth in the league in shots (41) and shots per game (2.28). OREGON STATE FORWARD RYAN JOHNSON NAMED PAC-10 MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State senior forward Ryan Johnson has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Nov. 8 - 14, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. Johnson, from Boston, Mass., contributed to all four Oregon State goals in its 4-1 win over Washington Sunday, scoring on two and assisting on two. Just two minutes after Washington scored the first goal of the game, he notched the equalizer, and went on to score the Beavers' third goal of the contest, while assisting the second and fourth goals. Johnson, whose six points were a career high, helped guide Oregon State to just its second victory in Seattle in 12 tries. Johnson led the Beavers in almost every offensive category this season, with six goals, nine assists, 21 points and 47 shots. He ends his career as Oregon State's all-time assist leader with 30, and finished third in points (66) and tied for seventh in goals (18).
