Washington's Mueller Named Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Commissioner Larry Scott announced today that WASHINGTON junior defender Taylor Mueller has been named the Pac-10 Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 27-Nov. 1. Mueller, a native of Sammamish, Wash., helped the Husky defense earn a pair of draws this weekend against CALIFORNIA and No. 21 STANFORD, allowing one goal in two games. In Friday’s 1-1 tie against the Golden Bears, Mueller and the Huskies limited Cal’s high-powered offense to just 16 shots in 110 minutes. After Cal scored the game-tying tally in the 35th minute, Mueller and his teammates shut out the Bears over the final 75 minutes. Closing out the weekend against No. 21 Stanford on Sunday, Mueller and the Husky defense had another stellar showing limiting the Cardinal to just seven shots in 110 minutes. The stingy Husky backfield gave up only one shot to the Cardinal in the first half and did not surrender a shot in either of the overtime periods. With the 0-0 tie, the Huskies recorded their fifth shut out of the season and tied a Pac-10 record with their fifth draw in Conference play. For the season, Mueller has played in all 15 matches, starting in 14 them. He has played an integral part of the Husky defense that ranks second in the Conference in goals allowed (14), averaging only 0.84 goals allowed per game. This is the first-career weekly honor for Mueller and Washington’s 21st all-time Player of the Week selection.
