WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- California sophomore forward Andrew Wiedeman has been named Pac-10 men's soccer Player of the Week for Aug. 26 - Sept. 1, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Wiedeman was instrumental in both of the Bears' games over the weekend totaling five points to open up the 2008 campaign. The San Ramon, Calif., native scored two goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-1 victory over UC Riverside in the season opener.

Against No. 4 Maryland, Wiedeman recorded an assist on the lone goal for the Bears, which gave Cal a 2-0 start to the 2008 season.

This is Wiedeman's second weekly honor of his career and the 13th overall for California.
