Men's Soccer Ties U.S. U-17 National Team, 3-3
Feb. 5, 2004 Carson, Calif. - In the 2004 Spring opener, the UCLA men's soccer team tied the U.S. Under-17 National Team, 3-3, at The Home Depot Center Thursday morning. Sophomore Jordan Harvey scored two goals, and classmate Evan Corey had a goal and an assist. The first half of the game was an entertaining offensive display, as the two teams combined to score five goals. UCLA got on the boards first with a goal by Harvey in the 23rd minute from a Chad Barrett cross in the 26th minute. After a U.S. penalty kick was converted to tie the score, Harvey and Barrett teamed up to set up a nice Evan Corey goal, putting UCLA ahead again in the 40th minute. A U.S. goal tied the score again a few minutes later, but Harvey answered right back with a 45th minute goal. Benny Feilhaber and Corey set up Harvey for the assists. The U.S. provided the final score in the 88th minute with a 25-yard free kick that gave the two teams a 3-3 tie. "For being our fourth day of spring practice, overall it was a good showing," said UCLA assistant coach Jorge Salcedo. "We had more good moments than we expected, along with some poor moments as well. It was a very good first game, and we will definitely build on that. As the spring goes on, with each match and each week of practice, we'll become sharper, and some of the mistakes of today will no longer happen." The Bruins will next face the Los Angeles Galaxy on Thursday morning, Feb. 19 at The Home Depot Center.
