Barrett, Owens Selected To Freshman All-American Team
Feb. 2, 2004 Barrett was the Pac-10 Co-Freshman of the Year and a second-team all-conference selection. He ranked second on the team with 10 goals, eight assists and 28 points and totaled the most points by a Bruin freshman since Joe-Max Moore scored 32 in 1990. Owens was the only freshman selected to the All-Pac-10 first team. A 20-game starter and two-goal scorer, he was a key member of the Bruin defensive unit that tied the school record with a team goals against average of 0.52. In addition, UCLA team awards were presented on Jan. 24. Winning awards were Zach Wells (Team MVP), Matt Taylor (MVP Offense), Dru Hoshimiya (MVP Defense), Chad Barrett (Rookie of the Year), Ryan Valdez (Most Improved), Tony Lawson (Most Inspirational for the third consecutive year), and Taylor Canel (Coach's Award).
