Bradford, Nelson and Williams Named Pac-10 Football Players of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--Tailback Allen Bradford and punt returner Damian Williams of USC and safety Cam Nelson of Arizona have been named Pac-10 Players of the Week in football. Bradford and Williams played key roles in USC’s 42-36 win against Oregon State. Bradford, a junior from San Bernardino, Calif., rushed 15 times for a career-high 147 yards (9.8 yards per carry) and two touchdowns for 2 and 43 yards. He led the Trojan ground attack that rushed for 227 yards. Williams, a junior from Springdale, Ark., returned two punts for 68 yards (34.0), including a 63-yard return in the fourth quarter that proved to be the winning score. Williams also had six receptions for 58 yards to account for 126 all-purpose yards. He currently leads the Pac-10 in punt returns with an 18.0-yard average. It marks the second special teams player of the week award for Williams this season. Nelson, a senior from Dallas, Texas, keyed Arizona’s defense in the Wildcats’ 27-13 win against UCLA. Nelson recorded six tackles, all solo, including two quarterback sacks (-11), and forced two fumbles, with both of them setting up Arizona touchdowns. The Wildcat defense limited UCLA to no offensive touchdowns, 10 first downs, 211 yards total offense (65 rushing, 146 passing), just 2-of-15 on third-down conversion attempts and forced the two fumbles. Also nominated for offensive player of the week honors were running backs Jahvid Best of California and Toby Gerhart of Stanford, wide receiver Juron Criner of Arizona, tight end David Paulson of Oregon and quarterback Sean Canfield of Oregon State. Also nominated on defense were linemen Will Tukuafu of Oregon and Cameron Jordan of California Also nominated for special teams play were return man Jeremy Ross of California, punter Jeff Locke of UCLA and Rory Cavaille of Oregon, who blocked a punt that the Ducks recovered in the end zone for a touchdown.
