Bernard, Reed, Crier Named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Football Players of the Week

Complete Release in PDF Format WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--Tailback Yvenson Bernard of Oregon State, defensive end Nick Reed of Oregon and punter Keenyn Crier of Arizona, have been named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Football Players of the Week. Bernard, a senior from Boca Raton, Fla., played a key role in Oregon State's 31-28 upset road win against then No. 2-ranked California. Bernard accounted for 163 yards and two touchdowns as he rushed 33 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns and added eight receptions for 53 yards. Reed, a junior from Trabuco Canyon, Calif., led Oregon's defense in the Ducks' 53-7 win against Washington State. Reed had a team-high 11 tackles, six solo, including five tackles for loss (-46) and 3.5 quarterback sacks (-44). The Oregon defense limited Washington State to 63 yards rushing, 314 yards total offense, posted six quarterback sacks and registered a safety. Reed also was named national defensive player of the week by the Walter Camp Foundation. Crier, a freshman from Spring, Tex., had a memorable performance in Arizona's 20-13 loss at No. 10 USC. Crier averaged 48.0 yards on seven punts, including an 83-yard punt that was downed on the Trojans' 1-yard line. It was the second-longest punt in Arizona history, and the longest since 1930, and tied for the fifth-longest in Pac-10 history. Five of Crier's seven punts were downed inside the 20-yard line, including three downed inside the 5-yard line. Others nominated for offensive player of the week honors were quarterback Dennis Dixon of Oregon, tailback Keegan Herring of Arizona State, tight end Fred Davis of USC and wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins of California. Also nominated on defense were linebackers Alan Darlin of Oregon State and Spencer Larsen of Arizona and safeties Josh Barrett of Arizona State and Kevin Ellison of USC. Alexis Serna of Oregon State, Thomas Weber of Arizona State, Joe McKnight of USC, T.J. Ward of Oregon and Andrew Larson of California were nominated for special teams play.
