Smith, White, Schneider Named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Football Players of the Week

Oct. 2, 2006 WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Wide receiver Steve Smith of USC, linebacker Scott White of Washington and kicker Tom Schneider of California have been named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Football Players of the Week. With All-America receiver Dwayne Jarrett out of the lineup with an injury, Smith, a senior from Canoga Park, Calif., stepped up to key the USC offense in a hard-fought 28-22 win at Washington State. Smith had 11 receptions for 186 yards (16.9) and a pair of touchdowns covering seven and 11 yards. He accounted for most of the Trojans' 269 yards through the air. White, a senior from Lemon Grove, Calif., led the Washington defensive unit in the Huskies' 21-10 road win at Arizona. White had a team-high 10 tackles, eight solo, including three tackles for loss (-29) and two quarterback sacks (-25). The Washington defense limited Arizona to minus-seven yards rushing and 308 yards total offense, allowed just 1-of-13 third-down conversions and posted six quarterback sacks for minus-54 yards. Schneider, a junior from Walnut Creek, Calif., was perfect on two field goal attempts and five PATs to account for 11 points in California's 41-13 win at Oregon State. Others nominated for offensive player of the week honors were quarterbacks Nate Longshore of California and Isaiah Stanback of Washington and receiver Jaison Williams of Oregon. Also nominated on defense were ends Dexter Manley II of Oregon and Bruce Davis of UCLA and safety Brandon Hampton of California. Troy Van Blarcom of USC and Gavin Ketchum of UCLA were nominated for special teams play.
