WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- PAC-10 TITLE FOR TROJANS: USC extended its Pac-10 record string of Conference championships to seven in a row as the Trojans went 8-1 in Pac-10 play and 12-1 overall. In so doing, USC earned a fourth straight trip to the Rose Bowl, which tied a record for consecutive appearances in that storied game.
PAC-10 PERFECT IN BOWL GAMES: The Pac-10 had arguably its finest bowl season ever as Conference teams went a perfect 5-0 in post-season contests. The five wins were the most bowl victories for the Pac-10 since going 5-1 following the 1997 season. The last time the Conference was undefeated in bowl games was following the 1989 season when the Pac-10 posted a 4-0 mark. The bowl wins came against stiff competition as Pac-10 teams knocked off four Top 20 teams in No. 8 Penn State, No. 13 Oklahoma State, No. 17 BYU and No. 18 Pittsburgh.
PAC-10 BOWL GAME RESULTS (5-0): Rose Bowl presented by Citi: USC 38, Penn State 24 Pacific Life Holiday Bowl: Oregon 42, Oklahoma State 31 Brut Sun Bowl: Oregon State 3, Pittsburgh 0 Emerald Bowl: California 24, Miami 17 Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl: Arizona 31, BYU 21
OUT OF OUR LEAGUE: The Pac-10 finished the 2008 season with a 19-17 (.528) record against a formidable slate of non-conference opponents, the 25th straight year the Conference compiled a winning mark against outsiders. The non-conference schedule was formidable in that 36% (13 of 36) of the opponents were ranked in the Top 25 when the Pac-10 played them. The Pac-10 finished a very solid 6-7 overall against those top 25 opponents and the Conference was 5-0 in games in which both teams were ranked.
