July 9, 2003

The ARIZONA Wildcats led the Conference and the nation for the majority of the 2002-03 season, suffering only one blemish in Conference play, winning a 10th Pac-10 crown with a 17-1 league ledger, and a 28-4 record overall, securing the Wildcats' 16th campaign with 20 or more wins.

The Pac-10 Tournament returned to Los Angeles, where fifth seeded OREGON played valiantly and captured its first Pac-10 Tournament title, defeating seventh seeded USC in the championship game.

The Pac-10 Conference sent five teams into the NCAA Tournament where Arizona marched into the Elite Eight before being turned away by Kansas. The Wildcats have advanced to at least the Sweet 16 six times in eight years, and their current streak of 19 consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament leads the nation.

OREGON'S Luke Ridnour became just the second Duck to be named the Pac-10 Player of the Year. He guided the Ducks to a fourth place finish in the Conference race, and a Pac-10 Tournament title, while averaging 19.7 points per game and 6.6 assists per game. Fellow Duck Andre Joseph garnered Newcomer of the Year honors, after averaging 9.3 points per game off the bench in his first season with the Ducks. ARIZONA STATE's Ike Diogu picked up Pac-10 Freshman of the Year honors after posting 19.0 points per game, and averaging 7.8 rebounds per game in his first collegiate campaign. Pac-10 Co-Coach of the Year honors went to Arizona's Lute Olson and Stanford's Mike Montgomery. Olson's Wildcats won their 10th Pac-10 Championship and were ranked No. 1 in the nation for the majority of the year. Montgomery guided a young Stanford team to a second place Conference finish and a ninth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

Along with the various league honors, Arizona's Jason Gardner and Luke Walton were recipients of All-America honors for their outstanding play during the 2001-02 season.
