Pondexter Pours In 13; USA Beats Greece, 108-77
July 6, 2009
BELGRADE, Serbia -- Washington Husky forward Quincy Pondexter (Fresno, Calif./San Joaquin Memorial) poured in 13 points and Team USA beat Greece 108-77 to improve to 3-0 at the World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia. Pondexter came off of the bench on Monday and did most of his damage from the free throw line, connecting on 9-of-12 from the charity stripe. He also had two assists, a blocked shot and a rebound in 19 minutes of action. Team USA held a slim 44-39 halftime lead, but outscored Greece 31-15 in the third quarter to stretch out to a more comfortable margin. The Americans added an 11-2 run to go up 86-56 with 7:31 to play and never looked back. "It was a lot of fun," said Pondexter on the game against Greece. "And it was another step towards us becoming a really good team. We are learning. We are getting better every game." Serbia, a team that beat the American squad 98-82 in an exhibition game on June 28, awaits Team USA on Tuesday. Pondexter and his teammates are ready for a rematch against the 3-0 Serbian team. "I'm more confident this time in our team," said Pondexter. "If we get down or anything, I will have more confidence in us to rally up. We are a lot closer now, and we know how each other plays. We have a little bit of a rhythm now." Information from this story was gathered from USABasketball.com.
