STANFORD'S BRIAN HALL NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ARIZONA'S SCOTT BURNS NAMED PITCHER OF THE WEEK

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - STANFORD senior outfielder/infielder Brian Hall and ARIZONA senior right-handed pitcher Scott Burns, have been named Pac-10 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 27- May 3, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Hall, from Carlsbad, N.M., finished the four-game week with a .688 batting average (11-for-16) with a double, two home runs, 10 RBI, seven runs scored and a 1.125 slugging percentage. In the three-game Conference sweep of Washington State, Hall went 10-for-11 from the plate (.909), slugging 1.545 with eight RBI. He was also successful in all 23 of his chances defensively. In the series opening 8-3 win over the Cougars, Hall went 4-for-4 with three RBI and a home run. The next day in a 13-11 victory, Hall again went 4-for-4, reaching base for his eighth consecutive official at bat.

Burns, from Scottsdale, Ariz., picked up the first two saves of his career this weekend, throwing a combined five innings in two games allowing no runs, no walks and only one hit while striking out four. The fifth-year senior who had only pitched 12 career innings coming into this weekend, bailed out a pitching staff with only seven available arms on the weekend with his biggest performance coming on Sunday, May 2. Entering the game with the 'Cats up 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and the bases loaded, Burns got out of the inning with a liner to the shortstop and went on to pitch two final scoreless innings. The Wildcats went on to win the game 8-3, thus winning the three-game series.

The Player of the Week honor is the second of Hall's career having earned the accolade earlier this season and the 56th all-time selection for Stanford. The Pitcher of the Week honor is the first career honor for Burns and the 29th selection all-time for Arizona.
