Wright Wins High Jump at the Stanford Invitational

STANFORD - The California track and field team wrapped up the second and final day of the Stanford Invitational today at Cobb Track & Angell Field. Leading the way for the Golden Bears was senior Ed Wright, who won the high jump, and sophomore Patrick Kowalsky, who claimed top honors in the shot put.
Wright took the top spot in the high jump with his mark of 7-2.50 (2.20m). The mark was also an NCAA regional qualifier. Kowalsky won the shot put with a mark of 54-0.50 (16.47m). The score was a new personal best for Kowalsky, who also placed 12th in the discus.
In addition to the success of Wright and Kowalsky, senior Chris Chavez and junior Mark Matusak also turned in strong performances. Matusak recorded an NCAA regional-qualifying time in the 1500, clocking in at 3:45.85. Matusak placed ninth in the event. Chavez set a new personal best in the 5000 at 14:14.61.
Highlighting the women's team for the Bears in the second day of the Stanford Invitational was sophomore Rowena Tam. Tam led the Bears in the 5000, taking ninth overall and clocking in a new personal-best time of 17:01.31.
Cal will host its second meet of the season next Saturday. The Bears will host Stanford in The Big Meet Saturday, April 12, at Edwards Stadium.
