Cal Competes at Stanford Invitational

STANFORD - The California track and field team opened competition at the Stanford Invitational today at Cobb Track & Angell Field. The Golden Bears recorded numerous top-10 finishes in the first day of the two-day event. Among the top-10 finishers were sophomore Kiely Smith in the hammer, sophomore Theresa Raub in the pole vault and sophomore Miles Palacios in the hammer.
Smith took fourth in the hammer with a personal-best mark of 49.09m (161-01). Raub took the highest placing of the day for the Bears. She placed second overall in the pole vault with a score of 3.70m (12-1.50). Raub has already regionally qualified for NCAAs.
In the high jump, sophomore Kristen Meister took eighth overall (1.65m, 5-5.00), and in the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Shannon Forbes came in ninth (63.71).
The Cal men had three top-10 finishers, all three in the field events. Palacios took sixth in the hammer with a mark of 53.94m (177-00). In the pole vault, junior Andrew Stevens came in seventh overall (4.45m, 14-7.25) and freshman Colin Kennedy took ninth in the javelin with a mark of 56.85m (146-11).
The Bears continue the Stanford Invitational tomorrow.
