The Americans recovered from a 1-4 deficit in the first set to convert four of six break points and secure the quarterfinal victory in 52 minutes.
Guccione/Hewitt had worked hard for their place in the quarterfinals, coming through the first round 4-6 7-6(4) 18-16 against Agustin Calleri and Juan Monaco before knocking out sixth-seeded Spaniards Rafael Nadal and Tommy Robredo.
