Bruin Swimmers Tune-Up For Olympic Trials At Two Meets This Weekend

The UCLA swimmers will head to two big meets this weekend for a final tune-up before the Olympic Trials. The Bruins will have athletes at the Omaha Grand Prix in Nebraska and the Janet Evans Invitational at USC. Competing in Omaha at the newly built Olympic Trials pool are former Bruin Kim Vandenberg, recent graduate Nicolette Teo and current Bruins Emily Bibb and Anna Poteete. Also competing with Team Bruin in Omaha is Olympic medalist Amanda Beard, who now trains under the guise of UCLA head coach Cyndi Gallagher. At USC and the Janet Evans Invitational, several Bruins will be trying to make qualifying times for the Olympic Trials and swim personal-bests. Of note is former Bruin Luisa Los-Santos, who is trying for the FINA "A" cut time in the 100 butterfly to make the Malaysian National Team. She is less then .5 seconds shy of the mark. Team Bruin Member Kim Vandenberg: 100/200 fly, 50/100/200 free, 200 IM Amanda Beard: 100/200 breast, 200 IM Teo, a five-time All-American with UCLA, has already been named to the Singapore National Team and will compete in her third Olympic Games this summer in the 100/200 breast and relays. |
