Fifteen UCLA swimmers kicked off their summer competition schedule this past weekend (July 14-16) at the Janet Evans Invitational with strong results as the Bruins picked up 11 top-10 finishes at the meet.

Senior-to-be Kim Vandenberg, who will be heading to the World University Games in August, posted the highest finish for any Bruin this weekend, placing second in the 200 Fly (2:13.58). Vandenberg also finished fifth in the 100 Fly (1:02.50), 17th in th 50 Free (26.58) and 18th in the 100 Free (58.71).

Sophomore-to-be Chiemi Yamamoto also had an impressive weekend, placing fourth in the 400IM (4:54.18), seventh in the 400 Free (4:22.02) and ninth in the 200 IM (2:20.26).

Junior-to-be Katie Arnold also posted several top-10 finishes. Arnold placed fifth in the 50 Free (26.42), sixth in the 100 Back (1:04.22), seventh in the 100 Fly (1:02.50) and eighth in the 200 Back (2:20.33).

Also posting top-10 finishes at the Janet Evans Invite were - Krista Daley (200 Fly, 10th, 2:18.26), Shannon Hackett (400 Free, 10th, 4:22.25) and Jane Imagane (1500 Free, 8th, 17:24.77).

Vandenberg, along with Head Coach Cyndi Gallagher, will head to Turkey August 7 for the World University Games. The Bruins will also compete at US Nationals August 3-7.

Sophomore-to-be Nicolette Teo will compete at the World Championships for Singapore July 17-31 in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke.
