Pacific-10 Conference Athletes Recognized as Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars

The Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars, which are presented by the Diverse: Issues In High Education magazine, were recently named, recognizing the academic achievements of 49 Pacific-10 Conference student-athletes from four member institutions. Named for the famed tennis player and scholar Arthur Ashe, student-athletes have to compete in an intercollegiate sport, maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 and be active on their campuses or in their communities to be eligible for the award.

    2008-09 Pac-10 Postgraduate Scholarship Winners Announced

    Commissioner Larry Scott has announced the 39 outstanding Pac-10 student-athletes who have been named recipients of Pac-10 Postgraduate Scholarships for 2008-09. These $3,000 awards go to student-athletes with a minimum 3.0 GPA who have also demonstrated a commitment to continuing education, campus and community involvement, and leadership. Since the program began in 1999, the Pac-10 has awarded over $1 million for postgraduate study.

    Conference Rowers Set to Represent at the Under 23 World Championships

    Thirteen Pac-10 Conference rowers and CALIFORNIA assistant coach Luke Agnini were named to the 2009 United States Under 23 National Team roster on Monday. The Conference contingent will row on six of twenty-one crews set to represent the United States at the 2009 World Rowing Under 23 Championships scheduled for July 23-26 in Racice, Czech Republic.

    2009 Pac-10 Rowing Year in Review

    WASHINGTON celebrated not only a national rowing championship but also a stirring, come-from-behind victory wherein the men's varsity eight rallied from a nine-seat gap over the second half of the 2,000-meter race to edge its arch rival, top-ranked CALIFORNIA, by one second at the finish. Meanwhile, STANFORD became only the fifth-different team champion in 13 years of the NCAA Women's Rowing Division I Championship, capturing its first national title and ending Brown's two-year reign in May at Cooper River Park in Cherry Hill, N.J.
