WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--Kevin Chappell of UCLA has been named Pacific-10 Conference Golfer of the Month for May 2008. Chappell, a senior from Fresno, Calif., capped an outstanding season and collegiate career by winning the NCAA individual championship while leading his UCLA team to the team title. Chappell was the only player in the NCAA field to finish the championship under par, as he completed four rounds at two-under to win the individual title by three strokes. UCLA edged out defending NCAA champion Stanford by one stroke, with USC another stroke behind to give the Pac-10 a 1-2-3 finish. "This (the NCAA championship) was my fifth college win and the first I get to enjoy with my team," Chappell said. It's just awesome. It's the best way to end my college career." Chappell has been named the Jack Nicklaus Collegiate Player of the Year and the Pac-10 Player of the Year. This marks his third Pac-10 Player of the Month selection, the most ever by a player.
