Cal Women's Soccer Cal Women's Soccer 2007
Written By: Valerie Barnes I will make my final blog short and sweet as our season came to an abrupt close on Sunday after losing to Stanford in a penalty shootout. For the majority of the game, we were down a goal and our freshman forward, Alex Morgan, scored the tying goal that sent us into overtime. After we battled through the two overtimes, neither team could put away a final goal. Finally, the game went to PKs in which we lost in sudden death. As frustrating as it was to lose in the second round of the playoffs, I've never been prouder to be a California Bear. In the second half, we came out with more passion and desire than any team I've seen. It was only a matter of time before we would get a goal, and I mean up until the last minute. We played our hearts out for each other and deserved to win and unfortunately a penalty shootout is what determined our fate. Looking back on our season as a whole, I am extremely sad it has ended and that it was the last time we would be playing with our seniors. However, the times we shared with each other and the adversity we battled through together have caused us to grow closer to one another as a Cal soccer family. Together, we have accomplished so much and we are already excited for what next season has in store. As for now, we have to focus on school and nurse all of our postseason injuries. So long and as always, Go Bears! Valerie Barnes
