Cal Women's Soccer 2007

We have just finished our final weekend in conference play, coming away with two more wins against Oregon State and Oregon. A six-game winning streak lands us at third in the Pac-10 and with a pretty good chance of making the NCAA Tournament. Overall, we ended with a 14-5 regular-season record, not tying a single game. As a whole, we are proud of the way we the Bears have pulled through these last six games after suffering three losses in a row at the beginning of conference play. Though our play was nowhere near perfect this weekend, we were still able to find the back of the net and take care of our last two conference games. For us Bears, these last six games have been a true test of our character as a team and the willingness we have to play for each other.

Upon arrival to Eugene, Ore., our team walked out of the airport into the frigid Oregon weather. For the most part, the weather cooperated quite well, and we did not have to play in a drop of rain. When we are not playing soccer, it is easy to get a little bored, even though the homework sitting in the backpack is just waiting to be taken out. Small pranks have become a big part of our team, especially this season. BZ, our assistant coach, is pretty fun to play pranks on especially since he usually starts most of them. On our last night in the hotel, some of us were sitting in our trainer's room getting treatment for our aches and pains. BZ was sharing a room with our trainer, so some of the girls on our team, who will not be named, decided to have some fun.

At most hotels, two complimentary bags of instant coffee are provided in every room for the convenience of the hotel guests. A couple of girls took the coffee grinds and scattered them all inside BZ's bed and underneath his pillows. Because BZ stays up late for hours breaking down film for us to watch and learn from, I had pity for the poor guy. Don't get the wrong idea, I am a big fan of pranks, but for some reason I just did not feel comfortable with this one. Plus, I thought it would be funny if the pranksters never knew I cleaned it up and just thought they pulled a hilarious prank on BZ. After I cleaned up the mess, his sheets still smelled of coffee, but it was better than sleeping with grinds.

For those who saw me clean up the mess, I was very adamant on making sure the original pranksters did not discover what I had done. In no way did I want to be viewed as someone who didn't find pranks funny or just being an uptight person. After everyone swore an oath not to tell, I informed BZ of what had happened, and he laughed and appreciated the loyalty I showed to him. Because I am posting this blog and it will be viewable to the public, I am putting myself out there and hoping no one on my team reads this! In all seriousness, the next morning BZ told me that his deep love for coffee made the smell like aromatherapy while he fell fast asleep.

Roll on you Bears!
